ABOUT THE EVENT
Thai institutions are facing an overseas investment imperative. Their risk adjusted return targets are higher than what the Thai economy can bring. According to the World Bank, the economy is projected to grow at a sluggish 3.8% in 2019. The latest regulations regarding overseas investment ushered in by the Bank of Thailand in September 2014 haven’t changed, but global markets have. Asset classes and the geopolitics of the region are in flux. An increasingly adversarial relationship between America and China and a looming recession threaten global stability. Thai investors need to address issues ranging from monitoring assets effectively with limited resources, the need for greater diversification, understanding the real value of ESG and applying technological innovations to optimise portfolio management, as well as to diversify their portfolios by increasing exposure to alternative investment opportunities, which are increasingly becoming crowded markets. All these challenges, and more, will be addressed at the Institutional Investment Forum Thailand, where 150 domestic asset owners, managers and middlemen will convene, to discuss with global fund managers the future of overseas investment in Thailand, and how they can effectively navigate through turbulent times.
